IMPACT RESULTS – 2ND JULY 2009

JEFF JARRETT & A.J. STYLES vs. KURT ANGLE & SAMOA JOE- TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH

JB handled ring introductions for this one. Jarrett and Angle went at it to start, and Angle quickly shrugged off a Stroke. The two traded offense and Styles tagged in. Angle raked the face. What incentive is there to tag out here, when you need to be in to win the title, since winning as a team means nothing here? Joe came in and got dropkicked down, then Angle came in and Styles and Jarrett traded off punching him. Angle was sent to ringside as the faces hit a double-clothesline on Joe.

[Commercial Break]

Styles was on the mat out of break and Joe had just made a tag to Angle. They seemed to be focusing on the knee of Styles. Both Angle and Styles were down, but Joe knocked Jarrett off the apron and no one was there when A.J. went for the tag. Joe came in and kinda toyed with Styles. Headbutt, but Styles came back with a moonsault that turned into an inverted DDT, at the same time he hooked Angle and gave him a regular DDT. Jarrett tried to get on the apron, but Styles got locked in a submission by Joe. Styles broke out and Pele kicked Joe, then made the tag. Pedigree (called a “double-arm DDT” by Tenay), then Joe came in to give Angle the advantage again. Angle Slam turned into a DDT by Double J. He fought off Joe and Jarrett looked like he was going to hit the Stroke off the top. Instead, Joe hit the Muscle Buster on Jarrett, but Styles took out Joe and, inadvertently, the referee. Jarrett was able to finally hit the Stroke, but the ref was out. Jeff went for the guitar but by then, the ref was up and he took the guitar away. At that point, Angle locked in the ankle-lock. He tried to make the tag to Styles, but Joe pulled him off the apron. Angle grape-vined the leg of Jarrett. Jarrett didn’t tap, but passed out from the pain. Slick Johnson raised and dropped his arm three times, then called for the bell.

WINNERS: Joe & Angle, at 12:50.

The Mafia celebrated in the ring following the match. Styles took the title and threatened the Mafia with it, causing them again to flee to ringside. He attacked Joe, then the MEM came back in and attacked Styles. In a split-screen, Morgan was beating up Daniels backstage. As Nash was about to hit Styles with the Legends Title, the lights went out. When they came back on, Sting was in the ring with a baseball bat. He cleaned house on the Mafia with the bat. He grabbed the belt, held it above his head, then the lights went out again. Sting and the belt were nowhere to be seen when the lights came back on.

Dixie Carter mentions AJ in Interview

TNA President Dixie Carter recently took part in an interview with TNA Wrestling. The interview covered several topics, and Dixie even had a few words to say about AJ:

“Simply PHENOMENAL. He has taken the in-ring product to another level and is really starting to embrace his own stardom, which is a big part of being a star. I am so proud when I hear the ovation he gets around the world when he enters the arena; it usually is the loudest of the night. He has helped build TNA. AJ is the first and only TNA Grand Slam winner, and his time is just beginning.”

SLAMMIVERSARY 2009 RESULTS

Mick Foley (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle
King of the Mountain Match for the TNA Championship

The TNA Legends Champion AJ Styles is out first. The following match is for the TNA Championship.

Angle got heel heat by wearing a Pittsburgh Penguin jersey. Joe wore a Red Wings jersey, and attacked Angle before the bell. The referee ruled that he must start the match in the penalty box, and declared that Angle is already eligible. Match finally starts at 10:33.

Joe served his 2 minute penalty and entered the match. Jarrett pinned Foley at 2:15.

Joe choked out Foley via the rear naked choke, so Foley returns to the box. Joe, Jarrett, and Angle are eligible.

Joe climbed the ladder with the belt, but Foley returned to the box and pulled the ladder from Joe. Joe landed back first to the mat. Jarrett climbed the ladder, but Angle low blowed him. Jarrett went for a guitar shot, but Angle caught the guitar. Jarrett answered the ankle lock with a guitar shot.

Jarrett climbed the ladder, but Foley climbed the opposite side. Styles springboarded and knocked over the ladder. Foley climbed to the top of the penalty box. Styles followed him up. Foley threw him off back into the ring.

Foley dropped an elbow off the box onto Angle and pinned him at 14:55, so Foley is eligible.

Joe flipped AJ over the top rope, but Foley barely broke his fall. Styles pinned Foley on the floor, but we never saw it, as Angle leaves the box. Joe nearly had it, but AJ pulled him off the ladder. Styles tried to climb, but Joe stopped him. Styles clash on Angle. Joe again stopped Styles with a power bomb. Angle and Joe both climbed up together, and Joe gave the title belt to Angle to hang up and win the TNA title at 22:04. Looks like Joe is now a member of the mafia.

He said he turned his back on him, the company & the fans and screwed himself when he gave Angle the TNA Title. He wants to know who got in his head, who made him think it was all worth it. Joe says he can ask himself at Victory Road. Matt Morgan comes down and helps Joe beat down on Styles until Daniels makes the save. Nash, Booker & Steiner come down and beat down on Daniels & Styles…but then Sting walks down and the mafia leave the ring. Sting looks down at Styles & Daniels who are helped out by Security before taking the mic.

- TNA World Title Match contested under tag team rules – Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Jarrett & AJ Styles when Angle made Jarrett pass out from his leglock submission. Postmatch, Scott Steiner, Booker T and Kevin Nash come down to celebrate with Joe and Angle. Styles grabs his Legends Title and goes to chase off MEM. He eventually hits Samoa Joe but the remaining Mafia members come back into the ring and beat down Styles gangland style while Jarrett was still unconscious. Sting takes out the members of the Mafia and grabs the TNA World Title. The lights go back out and not only has Sting disappeared but so has Angle’s TNA World Title.

TNA IMPACT RESULTS – JUNE 11, 2009

Douglas goes for a kick. AJ catches it, so Douglas starts covering up. AJ does a bit of mocking, then works a wrist lock for a few seconds. Douglas responds with a headlock, which is not how I’d try to impress the fans in my first match back. AJ gets away and floors him with his high dropkick. Douglas rolls out of the ring, and AJ follows him with a Slinsghot Splash. He sells an ankle injury—I don’t know if it’s legit. Douglas yanks him into the guard rail, but AJ yanks him back. He rolls Douglas back into the ring. He looks for the Flying Forearm, but Douglas knocks the rope out from under him. Douglas dropkicks him from the apron to the floor. He brings AJ back in, and stomps on him a bit in the corner. He hits AJ’s back. AJ tries to fight back off the mat, but Douglas knocks him back down. They do it again, but this time AJ keeps throwing haymakers. He suddenly ducks a shot from Douglas and nails the Pele. Douglas is right by the ropes, and gets a foot up at two. He Back Body Drops AJ out to the apron, and when AJ tries to come back in with a Sunset Flip he cuts him off with a punch. He tries to hit a Belly-to-Belly Suplex, but AJ reverses it into a Rolling Arm Bar for the quick tap.

WINNER: AJ Styles in 4 minutes.

After the match Douglas attacks AJ from behind, then hits the Belly-to-Belly Suplex. He starts stomping away on AJ, which brings out Daniels to make the save. The crowd goes apathetic. The ref tries to pull Daniels off, which gives Douglas the opportunity to swat Daniels with a towel. Daniels goes down, and it turns out there were cuffs wrapped in the towel. Douglas locks Daniels to the ring rope, and looks like he has very bad intentions towards AJ. Before he can do much, Joe runs down, and Douglas runs like hell. That, oddly enough, does get a response from the crowd—maybe because it was not as predictable?
